Is that whats on now?

For my final project i had to create a “coming up next” bumper that could be used between television shows.  I came up with my concept fairly quickly.  I wanted to use the shows Two and a half men and The Big Bang Theory.  Immediately i embraced the idea of doing some sort of explosion for the big bang theory.

U mad(lib) bro?

When i was a child one of my favorite activities was doing mad libs.  I am happy to announce that i have token my love for mad libs to the next level.  For my javascript class i created an online mad lib.  While writing the story for the mad lib was challenging, coding the mad lib itself was more challenging.  Without further adu, the mad lib!

The Wall

Sometimes it is hard to tell where the boundaries are.  Personally I am very conscious of my actions and how they affect others.  I don’t like to do things that might have an unanticipated outcome.  Other people will just say whatever pops into their head.  Now i’m sure it backfires sometimes but I would like to experience that sometimes.  Although it scares me to put myself on the line like this I feel it is something that has to happen.  This seems like the ultimate experiment.  I want to break the wall that is holding me back.  I have been on the edge for the past few days considering the consequences of my action.  Until I am past the point of return I will be constantly rethinking my potential actions.  Writing this is making me think about what I am going to do an my heart is racing.  It makes me feel so uncomfortable but if it turns out for the best at the end it will all be worth it.  I don’t know what it says about me that I feel so uncomfortable deviating from my norm.  It seems strange that I want something so bad yet it makes me so uncomfortable the breach the wall and go for it.  I guess thats just life

I Hate the Background

So i’m in this action-script class.  Well its supposed to be an action-script class but so far all we’ve done is html and css(due to the meddling of the department chair).  Don’t think that i’m complaining because I find html and css really interesting and i’m always wiling to learn more about them.  For the big finale of this section we had to create a website.  Now it couldn’t just be any old website.  We had to choose a band and create our website for them.  Aren’t I just so lucky to have a musically talented roommate with a band? Anyway, his band is called the Massive Salmon Uprising.  That doesn’t really give me much choice of what colors or animals(lets call it themes) to use.  I like most aspects of my mock website except for one thing.  My teacher was insistent that we have a background.  As a general rule I find it very easy to hate websites with weird background images.  My own website proved no different.  Although the background gives it a very comical feel I am just not a fan.  I wish i had more copy to make this website feel more complete but you’ll just have to check it out.

Apples…And Your Pet Horse

At the risk of publishing a heavily recognized phrase, here is my first real JavaScript project.  I was tasked with creating a…wait for it…Apple Store.  Now before you jump to conclusions let me explain.  Basically my code asks the user how many apples they would like to buy.  Then it tells them that they have a pet horse(surprise!) and asks how many apples they would like to feed to their horse.  Then based on the imputed numbers and some admirably fast math(yeah I know it’s a computer but math is just not one of my strong points) the program determines if there are any apples left and if so then how many.    While this sounds awesome I have no doubt that some people might read this and think to themselves, ” there is no way that he can do that”.  To everyone who thought that it couldn’t be done I present my own take on the Apple Store.  If you didn’t believe it could be done click here and if you did believe that it could be done click the link anyway as punishment for trusting something that some random kid wrote on his blog.  Have fun feeding your new horse lots of apples!

Where To Go From Here

When I first started using this website it became a personal blog. It turned into a place for me to talk about what I wanted to talk about. Since I was primarily at home during this period of time nothing was really happening in my life.  Thus this blog turned into me reviewing a couple books and movies that I read or saw.  I can honestly say that I was disappointed by this and over the past couple months I have turned this website into a personal portfolio.  The dilemma however is should I keep it a personal portfolio or add blog posts about random events or my thoughts on things.  I think I can safely say that i’m completely done with the book review section of this website.  From here on out expect class work, personal work and hopefully(fingers crossed) some good blog posts.

Photo Montage

My first project for my intro to media preparation and editing class was a rough one.  I learned how to properly utilize SLR camera’s.  To this end I took pictures of something that defined me.  I also had to learn how to use Adobe Premier.  This was a little confusing for me.  I do like my final project however with a bit more advanced planning I could have made it better.  The transitions between pictures could have been done better to the timing of the beat in order to emphasis the change.

JavaScript

This semester one of the classes I am taking is Interactive Media 215.  This is a class that is all about JavaScript.  This class is probably one of the most important classes I will take because JavaScript is essential in creative web interaction. While we haven’t done much in it so far, I did learn one new valuable skill: making pop ups.  Now everyone hates these annoying windows but I see them as a step in the direction of my future and more complicated scripting.

Roundpeg

I have been fortunate enough to enjoy two internship stints at Roundpeg.  Roundpeg is a small business marketing company located in Carmel Indiana.  I was a summer intern there in 2011 and also spent my winter break (December and January  2011/2012) there.  I got a lot out of these experiences.  They taught me a lot about myself and what I want to do in the future.  While at Roundpeg I wrote several blog posts on a variety of different topics.  Please feel free to browse them.

Animal Poster

Project six was very fun.  We had to choose and animal and create an informational poster about it.  I chose the skunk.  Now this might seem like a strange animal to chose but I had my reasons.  Primarily the easy color pattern.  For this project we could only use two colors and although black and white seemed like the easy choice I later realized that we had to use colors besides those.  I absolutely hated my first draft although it started off strong.  I  used one of my pictures of a skunk and wavy lined text to emulate a spray sorta effect from the tail.  I think not having a background color adversely affected the overall design.  The second design was an evolution of my original thought for a black and white design.  I used the shape of a skunks tail for the background colors of a green and a pale yellow.  I do like the top half of the poster put the placement of items on the bottom leaves a bit to be desired.  My favorite part of this project was the headers.  We had to have two headers and I wanted to infuse humor into my skunk poster.  On the second poster I used a very scripty font to show irony.  As can be seen in the gallery my headers were “A Smelly Tale” and “Spray Whaaaat!?!?!”
